Paper crafts and handmade paper are all the rage in the crafting world. Paper crafts rank closely to the popularity of the washi tape explosion on the craft scene. Making paper is a wonderful way to recycle paper from around the home and classroom!
Tell your service providers what you want. Never assume that these people know exactly what you’re looking for. Create a very detailed Project contribution and ideas and send it via email. This must contain the number of articles you need, the amount of research needed, the kind of resources to be used, your preferred format and writing style, etc. Have your service provider read the project description and encourage him to ask all of his questions. Don’t let him get started unless he fully understands your requirements.
For example, in the projects I posted, I said I wanted writing samples in plain text format, rather than MS Word. Nine out of ten writers attached samples in… yes, MS Word.
But for those of you who feel that you have “graduated from IKEA,” which is known for its innovative albeit disposable style, how would you like to be able to economically create modern style in your home that was less “cheesy” than your average DIY project?
Where do you locate funding? Google is a perfect place to start. Another place would be to implement youth service grants. Grant awardees like to see the youth involved in receiving grant funds. Including youth in writing grant will be in your favor.
Your profile is (usually) the closest you’ll get to a face to face meeting with your client, so you want to make sure it’s up to date with your latest samples. You can also add your logo to your profile which makes you look more professional to a potential client. Also, consider making a promotional Youtube video (or outsourcing it if you aren’t so inclined) that a client can access from your profile. This can be a short video of you describing your skills, a ‘demo reel,’ a funny viral video, or testimonials from your clients. The key is to give the client an instant insight into the quality of your product. Most clients will check you profile before even reading your proposal, so this is the first and best way to make an impression.
For both options, you will soak the paper and water. At this point some people allow the natural process of absorption to proceed while others will prefer to add a tablespoon or two of cornstarch to the pulp to make a smoother surface or you can add a craft store liquid starch to the mix. There is not a wrong way to mix the paper and water solution with or without the addition of a starch. However, the paper will have a nicer texture for writing or drawing. If you choose to use a raw paper without starch that is perfectly fine. You will need to soak the paper for at least a few hours. You can soak the paper for two, three, four hours or even a day if you wish. The object is to allow the paper to thoroughly soak in the water. You want the paper pulp mix to absorb as much water as possible.
Talk about your expectations. Once you have chosen the best person for your articles, the next thing to do is to talk about your expectations. For your own protection, I suggest that you discuss issues about copyrights and duplicate content. Also, talk about payments and deliverables. It’s better if you put everything that you’ve discussed in writing so you’ll have something to refer to later on. Have it signed by your chosen ghostwriter before you let him start writing your articles.
