One of the hottest marketing tools for online business owners is to publish an online blog. If you are not familiar with what a blog is, it is similar to having a web site but it’s less formal. It is a great way to publish informative content that is directed towards establish customers and clients…and a great way to attract new ones. A blog is a lot easier to handle technology wise, as compared to building and updating a full blown web site.
Given the time it takes to get a new Lets Play off the ground and the amount of work and effort it takes to create one, adding content, building backlinks, etc., the prospect of buying an established blog is very appealing. Another big advantage of buying a blog is that you don’t have to establish an audience and wait for the site to be indexed within search engines. Most webmasters, will understand that even the most poorly managed sites should have some form of backlink network developed and return a result in the major search engines (unless of course it has been banned). While, it may not be on the first pages on the SERP’s, there will be some sort of result and therefore ready for you to optimize and improve.
The third strategy to drive traffic to your blog is to write content with a purpose that will compel your visitors to read your posts. Studies have shown that you have about 6 seconds to capture a reader’s attention. Therefore, your first sentence needs to hit home to the reader. If you use this article as an example, you noticed that my first sentence is focused on bloggers, so I speak to them personally. I also tried to add a little humor (don’t know if it worked though).
Your blog should be user-friendly. If you want people to read your blog, it needs to be easy to view and easy to navigate. No one will want to read your blog if it is unattractive and difficult to navigate. A navigable blog will also allow for comments and feedback to be submitted more easily. The best blogs often have the simplest layout.
Hundreds of events happen every year. Make sure that you are sending an email newsletter of your blog to all of your subscribers, and other friends. Along with increasing the exposure, it will also increase the interest rate of people in your blog.
Submit online blog to Search Engines – You want your blog to get ranked, so you need to submit it to search engines. You want the larger, more popular search engines like Yahoo and Google to crawl your blog. This doesn’t guarantee a spot in top ranking but it helps greatly. There is more work that needs to be done to get that top ranking you want.
Self promotion can’t be totally avoided. It is good when kept at a healthy level. However, you will end up pushing people away the moment you go overboard, constantly telling people to do this and that. Learn the art of tact and taste when asking people to share your content.
In conclusion, this brings to an end my 10 rules of radical blogging. Now I know I have stepped on some toes, I know I have challenged the views of many; I know I stirred the waters of conventional wisdom. So I am going to level the playing field here. If you feel I have contradicted your views or principles; then feel free to shoot me through your comments. I am prepared to take your bullets and also respond with mine, so let’s begin.
